Scarlett O’Hara was the daughter of Gerald O’Hara and lived on a plantation outside of Atlanta, Georgia, during the time of the Civil War. She was not beautiful, but men seldom realized it when caught by her charm. She used this charm shamelessly to get what she wanted. Because she had an exaggerated sense of worth and was not a very nice person, women tended not to befriend her. The only exception to this was the sister of her first husband, Melanie (Hamilton) Wilkes. With God as her witness, she would never be hungry again even if it meant lying, cheating, stealing, or marrying her sister’s beau.

#1- Charles Hamilton

Melanie's brother, shy and loving, falls in love with Scarlett during the Wilkes' BBQ at Twelve Oaks on April 16th, 1861.

The couple got married on April 30th, 1861.

Wade Hampton Hamilton, born February 1862, fearful and adoring of Scarlett and Rhett,

free and easy with Aunt Melanie and cousin Beau.

*DEATH*

Dies of pneumonia on June 15th, 1861, without any disillusioning about life or love or war

and aftermath of war.

*PURPOSE OF MARRIAGE*

To create jealousy in Ashley.

To spite Ashley for marrying Melanie.

To stay close to Ashley by marrying Melanie's brother.

#2 Frank Kennedy

Older man who only wants peace and quiet. Portrayed as a pushover who will do anything to appease Scarlett who "can be very loving and caring to him and make him happy when she is not in a bad temper".

The couple got married in January or February of 1866.

*DEATH*

Frank dies when he goes with a group to Shantytown to defend Scarlett's honor after she

was attacted and almost raped by a man in March of 1867.

Tara was on hard financial times and Frank was a business man with money.

*NOTE*

Frank was actually Suellen's beau. He even asked to marry Suellen, but Scarlett conned him

into thinking Suellen had forgotten about him, then Scarlett married him.

#3 Rhett Butler

Often publically shunned for scandalous behavior, sometimes accepted for his charm. Shrewd financially, loves Scarlett in spite of himself. Afraid of declaring his love, afraid of being ridiculed.

Eugenie Victoria "Bonnie Blue" Butler, born in June of 1869. Strong willed, pretty,

headstrong, Irish. Dies in July or Augest of 1873 in a horse riding accident.

Miscarriage in July of 1873 after a fall down a flight of stairs in their home. Rhett pushed
